Day 6

Today is Day 6 in the North.

I have a long list of achievements so far.

-Driving in snow
-Hiking in the woods on many days
-Seeing many birds including: Cardinals and Blue Jays!
-Knitted many things for work things.. including 2 hats and 3 shawls from start to finish.
(One hat and one shawl are for a magazine, another shawl is the new pattern I posted about today, the last shawl is for a friend's daughter... and the last hat is for the Darling One... Because it is cold here)
*Also... it is spoiled knitting as three of the projects are from http://www.sweetgeorgiayarns.com/

We have also done a lot of visiting and eating. And more eating.

Photos to come.

Yarn store #2

So today I went to Effiloche.

It is a yarn store/sewing lounge.

They had some pretty lovey stuff. Cute neighborhood too!

The fabric prints were beautiful... But all I walked out with was this Fleece Artist Sea Wool.

Ends

I made a shawl that stripes using many of my leftovers from my stash.

Then I over dyed it with lac and madder.

RETREAT!!

There is a most amazing retreat happening in June.

The Knit Social ladies are hosting a YARN RETREAT!!

It is June the 15-17th, and I am terribly jealous of those that get to attend!
Felicia of Sweet Georgia is teaching a workshop, and she is by far... all out... my favorite indie dyer. Ever. If you've never seen her colours, you will be in for a super treat! Everything she makes is great!

So if you're in the area... go to this. And then come back and share all of your stories with me!

Blankets

I came from fiber artists.

My Oma was a knitter, crocheter, tatter, and seamstress.

My mother is a seamstress and quilter.

They have both made me MANY blankets.

In turn, this summer I need to get working.

I have four sets of people getting married this summer, and I want to make blankets for all of them.

Passing on a loving tradition.

Unblocked

I drove to Seattle and back yesterday.

Well... I knitted and someone else drove.

I knit a whole blanket out of some Icelandic top that I spun.

A vest

I made a vest for a short little guy in my life. (he is almost two!)

I used my Handspun.... It is both knit and crochet.

Crystals and cards

I made crystal earrings for myself, got an amazing bee birthday card, and started knitting something (a new shawl pattern!) that if the yarn pools... Will look pretty strange.

Things that matter

I get asked every day if gauge matters in knitting and crochet.
I got a few friends to knit identical squares for me. (Same yarn, same needles, same pattern)
There is a HUGE difference in these.
Gauge matters.
