Rekyavik

We have spent the last 4 days in Rekyavik - and I'm blown away.

I expected to see regular city things, but this place is magical. I'm not going to be able to describe anything using the Icelandic names, because I'm still very terrible with Icelandic. The words I know:
Takk: thanks
Muu: milk
Banki: bank

So I can thank the milk bank, or milk the thank bank- but not much else. (Most everyone here speaks English though)

The tallest building here is a church- but the architecture is stunning. We went to the top and took photos of the whole city.

Last night a new friend took us on a drive around the whole city, and showed us all sorts of wonder- including the presidents house. Our host told us this story:
20 years ago his friend was hitch hiking out of the city early on a Sunday morning- he had been partying all night, and was a punk rocker looking worse for wear. He got a ride with someone out for a Sunday morning drive, and was surprised because the person that picked him up was the Icelandic president at that time.

This story makes me think we aren't going to have a hard time hitch hiking around the country these next three weeks.

We are staying at a camp ground that is pretty incredible- it has clean showers/bathrooms (flushing toilets!), a coffee machine, wifi, a kitchen, and laundry. It is the most luxurious campin I've ever done!

Yesterday I wandered pretty far outside of the city centre, and ended up at a mall- and I learned that malls are all the same, no matter where you are!

Takk for reading
