Its been a while

Hello Loves,
It has really been a while around here. I would apologize, but i've been busy- so thats the reason. Want to hear about all of the exciting things that have been happening in the last few months? Well- let's start from a few months ago. (I'm able to track my life for this account of life from my Instagram account!)
The shot above was from an adventure we went to Hemlock ski hill for my friend's birthday. It was a really rad cabin weekend, and it was the place that I started a new phase of life. Menopause.

Let's back this story up just a bit!

I don't really post about my health stuff on here because its not to do about textiles and adventures- but it will explain a lot maybe? I have endometriosis, and have had it since my early teens. It is a painful jerk of a disease, but i've found a brilliant control of it. I have had 3 surgeries to remove it, but it keeps coming back. It has a hold on my uterus and right ovary (the left one is a gooder!), so i've decided to get a hysterectomy and removal of the right ovary. I didn't come into this lightly, and no- i'm not planning on having kids. (I have put thought into this, and my answer is still no on kiddos. I know if I really wanted them I could adopt- I am adopted, and so is my sister) Before the hysterectomy my specialist wanted to see if it will make a difference for me (she wanted to see if I have nerve damage) so she decided to put me on meds that kick me into menopause until the surgery (this fall)

So there it is- I am menopausal. Once I get the surgery I will be back to the other side of menopause- throwing eggs from the left ovary.

Menopause at 29! (I have since turned 30)

Next I published 4 new patterns on Ravelry.

I get into the habit of just writing patterns, and then leaving them around the studio until I get the inspiration to publish them. I have about 30 unpublished ones right now!

The shot above is of my bud Ange in a tree taking photos. She is an inspiring lady- and she scaled a huge tree for me! (We also found a ton of owl pellets where I was laying. They're awesome!)

Ange shot the photo above of me- I was the Lush campaign photo for a month!

I went a little wild on creating eco-print bundles in preparation for my kickstarter campaign.

And more on that: I started a Kickstarter to fundraise for my book thats coming out this October. I was raising funds so I could pay the photographer and designer outright. And it was a HUGE success!
So we've shot the photos- and its time to get the rest together.

More on that soon!

Swimming season hit the west coast.

You will never regret swimming, but will always regret not swimming.

We went camping up Indian Arm Park for my 30th birthday at the end of April- It rained almost the whole time, but the 10 of us that went had a most magical time. The photo above is the Darling One and myself in the sweaters that our grandmothers made for our fathers in the 70's.

There was a big thing going around Instagram about the 'Slow Clothing' movement and I realised that I make over 75% of my own clothing. The photo above is all clothes I have made for myself.

Since starting the menopause meds i've felt 1000 0000 00000000X better. I had stopped riding my bicycle in the winter because of the pain I was in. It was totally excruciating. But now, i'm feeling on top of the world (albeit with hot flashes!) So i've been going on bike rides and adventures a lit more!
(See below- my freinds on tall bikes!)
My friends and I build freak bikes together.

And then my Kickstarter ended successfully- and I sent out 55 packages!

It was a hell of a lot of work- but totally worth it.

And now- i'm off on a whirlwind adventure with the Darling One.
We had planned for the last year to go away to Iceland, and we are doing it! We bought tickets in the Autumn last year, and have been preparing for a while. We are driving across the country to Montreal, and then flying to Iceland where we will be camping for 5 weeks! Then flying back to Montreal and driving home. It will take 2.5 months in all.

I had to say farewell to my buddies before I went.

The photo above is me having ice cream with one of my best friends- he will have turned 4 by the time I get home! (And his brother will have turned 2!)

We have been camping, eating fiddleheads, and generally adventuring our way across Canada so far.
We are in Calgary for the next few days, and then off on more adventures.

I will try to post more- I promise!

  2. What an interesting blog (and life) you have. I hope all goes well with your surgery. When I had my recent hysterectomy, the young girl in the next bed to mine had also suffered all her life with the same complaint as yours and she was the same age too, with no children and no regrets about that either. She's made a remarkable recovery (we keep in touch now) and says she feels wonderful to be pain free. Congrats also on your Lush campaign. Were you on the sides of buses and stuff? Have fun on your road trip. x
